Kaytie Nielsen is a filmmaker, historian, and underground arts facilitator. She’s a sixth-generation Texan who feels equally at home in the archives, on set, and in the mosh pit. She lives in Berlin.
Recently, Kaytie has presented her work at The Public Theater in New York, Hof International Film Festival in Germany, and Alamo Drafthouse in Texas. Her writing has been recognized by the BBC Comedy Script Room and the BlueCat TV Writing Competition.
As a Marshall Scholar, Kaytie gained a Master’s in English from University College London and a Master’s in History from Birkbeck, University of London. She is an alumni of the Fulbright Summer Institute at Queen’s University Belfast where she studied histories of conflict and resolution. As a Luce Scholar, she spent a year in New Delhi, India working for an independent production company as a cinematographer and editor.
Kaytie is the co-director of Mariannes Noires, a feature-length documentary broadcast on TV5Monde. She is a co-founder of The USB Project, dedicated to turning up the volume on London’s alternative music scene. She has served as a producer for the London Design Festival and the London Festival of Ideas, and her cultural programming has been supported by Arts Council England and the Mayor of London. She has previously worked for HBO as a Writers Room Assistant.
Kaytie writes about misfits, fringe communities, and surprising places of healing.
